黄金色の森のエゾフクロウ (082)

太い幹のかげから、エゾフクロウが体半分だけをのぞかせています。顔は丸く平たく、白っぽい羽に細かな縦じまが入り、目は黒。背景は黄金色にぼけていて、木々が色づいた時期であることがわかります。幹に体をぴたりとつけたまま、目を細めてこちらを見ている一瞬です。
エゾフクロウのこと
- 顔に耳のような羽角はなく、輪郭は丸い円盤状です。この写真の横顔でもそれがはっきりわかります。
- 目は黒く、胸から腹にかけては白地に褐色の縦じま。幹の色と重なるとよく紛れます。
- おもに夜に狩りをするため、日中は樹洞や幹のくぼみで休んでいることが多い鳥です。
- 北海道の森に普通に暮らす留鳥で、同じ木を長く使い続けることがあります。

An ezo fukurou leans out from behind a thick trunk, showing only half of itself. The face is round and flat, the pale plumage is finely streaked in brown, and the eyes are dark. Behind it the whole background has gone gold — the trees have turned.
It is pressed flat against the bark, eyes narrowed, watching.
This owl has no ear tufts at all: just a plain round facial disc and dark eyes. The streaked front blends into tree bark remarkably well. It hunts mainly at night, so by day you tend to find one resting like this against a trunk or in a hollow. They are resident in Hokkaido's forests all year and will use the same tree season after season.
