エゾモモンガが、飛膜をいっぱいに広げて空中にいます。四本の足をめいっぱい伸ばし、体は平たい四角に近い形。背景は針葉樹の枝で、滑空のさなかを真横から捉えた一枚です。
エゾモモンガのこと
- 前足と後ろ足のあいだの飛膜を広げて滑空します。写真は、その膜が完全に張った瞬間です。
- 尾は平たく、空中で舵の役目をします。写真でも体の後ろにまっすぐ伸びています。
- 大きな黒い目は、暗いなかで距離をつかむためのものです。夕方から活動を始めます。
- 木から木へ移り、樹洞をすみかにします。着地する先も、背景に見えるような木の枝です。

A Siberian flying squirrel is in the air, membrane stretched to its full width, all four legs pushed out. The body has become something close to a flat square. Conifer branches fill the background; the frame catches the glide side-on.
The membrane runs between the front and hind legs, and here it is fully taut. The flattened tail works as a rudder and is held straight out behind. Those large dark eyes are for judging distance in low light — this is an animal that starts its day at dusk — and the landing will be on branches like the ones behind it.
