二頭のキタキツネが、向かい合うように地面に座っています。一頭は赤茶色、もう一頭は全身が黒っぽい毛色です。まわりは夏の濃い緑の草。光はやわらかく、二頭とも同じ方向へ顔を向けています。
キタキツネのこと
- 北海道に広く分布するキツネで、平地から山まで見られます。
- 毛色には幅があり、赤茶色のほかに黒っぽい個体も現れます。写真は、その両方がならんだ一枚です。
- 尾は太く長く、座ると体の後ろに投げ出されます。写真の二頭もそうしています。
- ネズミや鳥、果実や昆虫まで食べる雑食です。草の茂るこうした場所は、狩り場のひとつです。

Two foxes sit on bare ground, turned towards each other. One is the familiar red-brown; the other is dark almost all over. Around them the summer growth is thick and green, and the light is soft.
Kita-kitsune are found right across Hokkaido, from lowland fields to hill forest. Coat colour varies, and dark individuals do occur — having both in one frame is the reason this photograph exists. Both tails are thrown out behind them in the way foxes sit. They eat almost anything: mice, birds, insects, fruit, and ground like this is a hunting patch.
