About Mt. Furano

  • Part of the Tokachi Volcanic Group, Mt. Furano is an active volcano with an elevation of 1,912m. Located within Daisetsuzan National Park, it is one of Hokkaido's most iconic peaks.
  • In summer, beautiful alpine plants bloom in profusion, with over 100 species of flowers, including Aleutian Mountain-heather and Ezokozakura, decorating its slopes.
  • The route from Tokachidake Onsen is popular, reaching the summit after approximately 3 hours of climbing one way.
  • It presents different expressions throughout the four seasons, and its appearance bathed in the sunset is a popular motif for photographers.
  • In winter, it is known as a mecca for backcountry skiing, attracting many skiers seeking high-quality powder snow.

About the Photographer

Hazuki Hirai — Born in Aichi Prefecture, currently residing in Kamifurano Town, Hokkaido. In February 2017, she was captivated by the snowy scenery of Kyoto and developed an interest in photography. In September of the same year, when she visited Hokkaido alone for photography, she was enchanted by the rich natural landscapes and the wild animals living robustly in the harsh environment, deciding to move there in December 2018. She primarily photographs natural landscapes and wild animals, contributing her work to various media including Digital Camera Magazine. She also produces official sample works for Sony α series and actively exhibits, including the Tokyo Camera Club Photo Exhibition and her solo exhibition "Color of Northlandscape" at Sony Store Sapporo.
