About the Ezo Red Fox

• Scientific name: Vulpes vulpes schrencki - A subspecies of fox endemic to Hokkaido, a Hokkaido population of the red fox.
• Representative wildlife of Hokkaido - Characterized by red fur and black feet, widely distributed from the plains to the forests of Hokkaido.
• Omnivorous diet - Eats various foods from small animals like mice to fruits and insects.
• Crepuscular - Most active and hunts at dawn and dusk.
• Deep connection with Japanese culture - Has appeared in Japanese culture as "kitsune" (fox) since ancient times and is a symbolic wild animal revered as sacred.

About the Photographer

Hiroki Inoue - Born in Sapporo in 1979, currently residing in Higashikawa Town. A wildlife photographer. In 2016, his work "Fox Chase" won first place in the Nature category of National Geographic's "TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR," making him the first Japanese person to achieve this. Photographing Ezo red foxes is his life's work, and he appeared on "Jounetsu Tairiku" in 2017. His books include "Letters from the North: What the Ezo Red Fox Taught Me" and "follow me: Winter Fox."
