Fox Profile (029)
About the Ezo Red Fox
- Ezo Red Foxes inhabit all of Hokkaido. They are larger than the Honshu red foxes and have thick fur adapted to cold climates.
- They raise their young from summer to autumn, and families are often observed together, showcasing strong family bonds.
- It's crucial never to touch wild Ezo Red Foxes, as they may carry a parasite called Echinococcus.
- They inhabit a wide range of areas from Hokkaido's plains to mountainous regions and have a diverse diet including mice, insects, and fruits.
- In Ainu culture, they are called "Chironnupu" and appear in stories as symbols of cunning and wisdom.
About the Photographer
Hazuki Hirai — Born in Aichi Prefecture, currently residing in Kamifurano Town, Hokkaido. In February 2017, she was deeply moved by the snowy landscapes of Kyoto and became interested in photography. In September of the same year, while visiting Hokkaido alone for photography, she was captivated by the rich natural scenery and the wild animals bravely living in harsh environments, leading her to decide to move there in December 2018. She mainly photographs natural landscapes and wildlife, and her work has been featured in numerous media outlets, including Digital Camera Magazine. She also produces official sample works for the Sony α series and is actively involved in exhibitions such as the Tokyo Camera Club Photo Exhibition and her solo exhibition "Color of Northlandscape" at Sony Store Sapporo.
An Ezo red fox I met on a summer day. The profile I caught a glimpse of was very graceful, and its clear eyes make for a memorable shot.
