About the Ezo Red Fox

• A red fox that inhabits all of Hokkaido and is active throughout the year.
• Crepuscular, active from dusk to night, mainly hunting rodents such as mice.
• In the harsh winter environment, its rich fur plays an important role in maintaining body temperature.
• A social fox that hunts cooperatively with multiple families.
• An important mesopredator in the food chain of Hokkaido's wildlife.

About the Photographer

Natsumi Handa - Born in Asahikawa City, Hokkaido in 1986. While working as a nurse in a hospital ward, she photographs Hokkaido's wildlife after night shifts and on holidays. She started photography in 2013 and in just a few years won numerous domestic and international photography contests, including 2nd place in the National Awards (Japan) at the "Sony World Photography Awards 2017". She has published photo books "Pirka" and "Kamuy," capturing the beautiful fur, adorable expressions, and vitality of animals.
