About Mt. Asahi

• At an elevation of 2,291m, it is Hokkaido's highest peak and the main peak of the Daisetsuzan mountain range.
• It is a sacred mountain, called "Kamuy Mintara (Playground of the Gods)" by the Ainu people.
• Located in the center of Daisetsuzan National Park, it is the face of Japan's largest national park (2,268km²).
• It is known for having the earliest autumn leaves in Japan and over 200 species of alpine plants.
• It shows different expressions throughout the four seasons, continuing to captivate many climbers and photographers.

About the Photographer

Yukinori Otsuka

Born in Noda City, Chiba Prefecture, in 1979. At the age of 20, he began working at an inn in Asahidake Onsen, which led to his encounter with Hokkaido's Daisetsuzan Mountains. Since then, he has lived in Higashikawa Town, focusing on "Daisetsuzan" as his theme, continuously photographing mountain landscapes and the people who are active there. He spends approximately 100 days a year in Daisetsuzan and contributes to mountain magazines such as "Gakujin" and "Yama to Keikoku". In 2018, he published the photo book "Bravo! Daisetsuzan: Photographing Kamuy Mintara". He also works as a mountain guide.
