About the Long-tailed Tit (Shima Enaga)

• The Shima Enaga is a subspecies of long-tailed tit found only in Hokkaido, also known as the "Snow Fairy."
• It is characterized by its small body, about 14cm long and weighing only about 7g, covered in fluffy white feathers.
• Unlike the long-tailed tit on Honshu, its entire face is pure white, giving it an adorable expression.
• It remains active even in winter, quickly flitting between trees in search of insects.
• It is the most popular wild bird and has become a hot topic on social media for being "too cute."

About the Photographer

Natsumi Handa - Born in Asahikawa City, Hokkaido in 1986. While working as a nurse in a hospital ward, she photographs Hokkaido's wildlife on her days off and after night shifts. She started photography in 2013 and within a few years has won numerous domestic and international photo contests, including 2nd place in the Country Award (Japan) at the "Sony World Photography Awards 2017." She has published photo books such as "Pirka" and "Kamuy," capturing the beautiful fur, adorable expressions, and vital activities of animals.
